Finally! The 2015 CrossFit Open is here! Here is the way its going to go down here at Iron Legion:

1. We want all of you to sign up – most of you are, all of you should be. See the link at the end of this for registering.

2. Drop-Ins are more than welcome! We would love to have you at Iron Legion. Just ask about our Drop In policy – its fair and fun!

Thursday 8pm’s: 

CrossFit Open WOD Announcement viewing. Grab your gear – or a favorite beverage and join us at the gym every Thursday at 8pm for the unveiling of the WOD! We will also run one heat for those brave souls that want to take it on Thursday night!! (If you are not registered – no WOD for you – sign up slacker)

 

Friday 5am thru 7pm’s

The Open WOD will run all day. You will all do it. You will all love it. And you all better be registered…its our time! Our Season – sign up.

 

Saturday’s:

Business as usual 8am thru 10am

10am to 1pm Open WOD continues for registered competitors. This time can be viewed as “pot luck” – bring some meat for the grill and lets smash the WOD together!

 

Sunday’s:

11am to 2pm Open WOD continues for registered competitors. This time can also be viewed as “pot luck” – bring some meat for the grill and lets smash the WOD together!

We had an awesome event this weekend with our 2nd Annual Iron Ruck for Charity! This year our local Ocala athletes put their fitness to the test and raised money for Toys for Tots.

 

Our event was led by some of Ocala’s finest military Spec Ops and we were surprised with very cool sniper ambushes and tactical discussions. Our athletes got to experience what it’s like to come together as a Team and perform under pressure during various missions planned during the event.

 

Our guys are walking away from this event with a greater respect for our Armed Forces, a stronger community was forged, and a great time was had by all – and we raised a nice chunk of change for Toys for Tots! Stand by – more missions are being planned! In the mean time enjoy the photos from Saturday here.

10:00am – 3pm ish: 2nd Annual Iron Ruck Light for charity. Put your fitness to good use! Here are the details:
 
Welcome to our 2nd Annual Iron Legion Charity Ruck 2014. The event will start at 10AM on Saturday December 6th and depart from our new Crossfit Iron Legion location at 217 SE 1st Avenue, Ocala, FL 34471. Be prepared with the items below to help you successfully complete the Ruck. We plan on the event lasting between 4-6 hours and going for approximately 6-10 miles. Any questions…let us know! See you on Saturday!
 
What do I need to participate in this year’s Iron Legion Charity Ruck Event???

  • You. Yes, you.
  • A ruck – backpack or official ruck. Either will do.
  • Gloves – not required but helpful – Mechanix suggested
  • Shoes – tennis shoes or boots are suggested
  • Weight – if you weigh under 150lbs then you need at least 8-12 lbs. You can do this by using 2 standard bricks which typically weigh 4-6 lbs each. If you weigh over 150 lbs then you need at least 16-24 lbs. You can accomplish this by using 4 standard bricks which typically weigh 4-6 lbs. It is strongly suggested to wrap your bricks with duct tape and bubble wrap to protect your back and your ruck!
  • H20 – accomplish this through water bottles or a hydration bladder such as Source or Camelbak.
  • $20 – this is cab fare to get you back home. Don’t worry though, your team will help you make it! If you still have this $20 left over at the end we typically ask for a donation to the charity!
  • Lastly you need the desire to have fun, never quit and the willingness to work as team.

6pm Lurong Paleo Challenge Podiums! Join us as we celebrate our Lurong Paleo Challenge winners! These athletes were amazing in their steadfast dedication towards their goals!
 
4pm to 8pm Open Gym / Open House! Come and check out our new facilities! Feel free to hang out and relax or join in a workout! We will be hosting head to head benchmark WODs for those who want to throw down. Get the barbells out and show off that back squat or clean and jerk PR. Have fun, do a wod, lift some weight, grab a shower and head downtown afterwards for the lights on the square! And of course – It’s all free!

January is the time for new year’s resolution, but a resolution without a plan is just a good idea. CrossFit Iron Legion is teaming up with Lurong Living once again for the Resolution Challenge! The Resolution Challenge provides what you need to not only make healthy new year’s resolutions, but it gives you the community, accountability, structure, motivation, competitive atmosphere, and education you need to making your resolutions become your reality.

The Challenge allows for individuals to compete simultaneously as an individual and for Team CrossFit Iron Legion. This 5 week Challenge tracks your diet, progress in achieving your New Year’s Resolutions, body composition, weight, personal goals, workout performance, and improvements. Whether your resolution is to lose a few lbs. from the holidays, improve your diet, or prepare for the Open, the Resolution Challenge is built for you.
 
Registration is open now and the challenge starts in January!

Downtown Ocala has been invaded!

 

Iron Legion has relocated to our new location!!

 

We are in our new spot and loving it!! Construction is finished, the paint is dry and the dust has settled. We are now located just off the Square in downtown Ocala! We are walking distance from restaurants, coffee shops and pubs. The lights for Light Up Ocala are up and we are right in the middle of it!

 

We have added a few things to make your life and schedule easier! First off – the showers are complete and ready for you! Yes, showers – get that WOD in and rinse off before you head out to work or walk downtown for a night out.

 

Kids Care is available at the 4pm and 5pm classes. $4 per head 6 months up to 12 years old (unlimited visits passes can also be bought for a discount). Let us know if you need different times and we will accommodate.

The CrossFit Experience:
A two week program designed specifically with the novice beginner in mind. This class will give anyone the answer to what exactly is CrossFit and is it for me?

 

CrossFit Lite
CrossFit Lite utilizes all of the functional movements of CrossFit with less complexity and little to no weight. These classes are challenging and fun with more emphasis on cardio and high intensity body movements.

 

Crossfit Endurance
This is the TRUE cardio class. No weights. Only your body. Taught by our CFEndurance certified Coach and long time Endurance athlete Steve Wingo this class is designed to enhance your endurance and stamina. Is your desire a faster Fran time or a faster 5K or marathon time? You are in the right place. This class utilizes running, rowing, cycling and cardio conditioning to get you to your fitness goals faster!

 

PIYOFit
PIYOFit combines Pilates, Yoga and High Intensity Interval Training targeted at increasing your mobility and flexibility set at a pace that gives a great workout at the same time!

 

SeniorFit
SeniorFit is a functional movement based class designed specifically for Seniors or those rehabilitating back from an injury. The class will be designed and ran by our own staff member Physical Therapist Kelli Davis, DPT. Kelli has her Geriatric Specialist Certification (GCS) and she is also a Certified Exercise Expert of the Aging Adult (CEEAA through APTA). Kelli has programs designed specifically with Seniors in mind that are engaging, energizing, safe and fun. All those who are interested in the classes will receive an introductory Physical Therapy assessment to allow for specific programming for all participants.

 

LunchFit
LunchFit is designed with your lunch break in mind! Warm up, work out with our high intensity work out of the day. These are set to start every 30 minutes beginning at 11:30. Grab a shower and be back at work ready to take on the rest of the afternoon!

 

Olympic Weightlifting / Barbell Club
Our Olympic Weightlifting classes are designed to teach you how to move efficiently under a barbell. These classes dig in and focus on the techniques of lifting. Our coaches have been USAW certified and competed (and podiumed) in various Olympic weightlifting events.

 

RuckFit
RuckFit is designed and coached by members of the 3-20th Special Forces Group. Expect equipment training, military style physical training and lots of rucking – or marching and strength and conditioning while under load. This class emphasizes teamwork and comradery as you learn how to train as a Team.

 

Team Training
Give your Sports Team the edge it needs in competition. Our coaches will meet with you to custom design programs to enhance your Team’s athletic ability. Baseball, volleyball, swimming, football – you name it we can give your Team the edge it needs!

 

Corporate Training
Let us help you get those insurance premiums down by giving your employees a healthier lifestyle with our Corporate programs. We would love to have you here, but we can come to you if your employees are crunched for time! Healthy employees are better employees!

 

Personal Training
Personal one on one training designed and customized for you. Our coaches will take the time create a personal training regimen specifically targeted at achieving your goals – whatever they may be.

Lift Heavy, Go Fast, and Take Risks!!

Come join us this Saturday October 25th for our annual Halloween Party and Fall Competition!

 

 

We are relocating to our new spot in November so this will be the last epic throwdown at the current location – and we want to do it BIG!

 

 

This is a family friendly event open to everyone. Non-members are also welcome to compete for a small fee of $35. Non-members please call 352-620-2625 to register for the competition – or just show up by 1pm on Saturday. The competition itself will start at 2pm and we want podiums by 7pm.

 

 

The Halloween Party will officially kick off after podiums (although Im sure a few of you will start early) and go until roughly 10pm. Competitors MUST to be here at 1pm for athlete briefings and warm up.

This is a pot-luck style event. Please bring a wacky crazy Halloween themed dish with you and share!

 

 

We want you to dress up for the Competition AND the party! Of course there will be a costume contest!

 

 

Please park at the Armory (no parking at the Gym), bring a chair, cooler and a tent and get ready to throw down one last time at our current location! Lets give this place the send off it deserves!! Its that time again – we LOVED this challenge last year and our Members saw some amazing results! Athlete Registration opens today – get signed up before September. What is it? Thought you would never ask:

 

The Lurong Living Paleo Challenge platform allows for athletes to compete as an individual and for their Affiliate Team. This is a diet and fitness competition that features a balanced scoring system, making it possible for anyone to win. Participants earn points for their diet (Clean/Cheat) 6 time periods per day, and performance in workouts, but they also rack up points for how much improvement in performance and body composition they see. In addition there are several other engaging features which help earn bonus points such as submitting new recipes and tracking personal goals.

 

During the Challenge there are 3 benchmark WODS which are performed at the beginning an end of the Challenge and 4 separate performance WODS. Each WOD has 3 skill levels with standardized movements, making them accessible for everyone from competitive athletes to on-rampers. So yes, we are all doing this together. And to make things more exciting, building a team of at least 20 athletes qualifies the affiliate for a host of team prizes. Overall, there is more than$100,000 in prizes on the line.

One thing that I’ve noticed since opening the doors at CrossFit Iron Legion is that folks unknowingly automatically assume that “CrossFit” is a franchise. It’s not.

 

It’s easy to see why folks feel this way in a country full of “Mclook-a-like business-Marts”.

 

Franchises follow a strict guideline to maintain the same – or status quo across all stores. It’s a business tact that works for them, but it’s not how CrossFit gyms operate. (Thank goodness, because that’s boring).

 

CrossFit is not a franchise. CrossFit is simply an affiliation. Each CrossFit Gym out there is independently owned and operated and will 100% of the time reflect the Owner’s and Operating Staff’s passions and attitudes towards fitness. More often than not this is what makes them great and unique. Sadly if those passions and attitudes are poor – then it’s very likely that the gym will be the same.

 

Every CrossFit Gym is different. It’s the best part about it!! Find a CrossFit Gym that fits YOU. Find one that is suited towards your values and goals. Don’t just go to the closest one – or the cheapest, or the Groupon deal, because CrossFit Gyms are not the same! Do your research, talk to the staff. It will make the difference I assure you.

 

You are taking a step in a very positive direction. Make sure you follow through by making sure that the goals of your gym of choice match yours, and if they don’t, move on. There are CrossFit Gyms on six inch centers in every city these days. You could very likely visit 3 distinctly different gyms in an hour in any given city.
