The Man Behind the Mission

From a Backyard and a Sand-Filled Basketball to Ocala's Premier Training Facility

In 2012, Ted Dreaver stood in his backyard with three people and a basketball filled with sand, sealed shut with duct tape. That was the first Iron Legion session. There was no facility, no branded equipment, no business plan on a spreadsheet. There was just a conviction that training could be something more than reps and sets under fluorescent lights.

Before settling in Ocala, Ted had traveled from city to city, always finding his way into a gym wherever he landed. And everywhere he went, the experience was the same: sterile, faceless facilities where people plugged in earbuds, stared at screens, and left without exchanging a word. No community. No accountability. No one pushing you to discover what you were actually capable of.

That frustration became the blueprint for Iron Legion. Ted envisioned a place where the training was serious, the standards were high, and every person who walked through the door was treated like a teammate, not a membership number.

Over 14 years, that backyard experiment has grown into one of Central Florida’s most respected strength and combat training facilities. Ted’s coaching staff has included professional athletes, Olympic weightlifting world record holders, strength and conditioning coaches from NASCAR, collegiate coaches, MMA fighters, doctors, and first responders.

Today, Ted balances his role as head coach with life as a husband and father. His growing family reinforces the same principle he coaches every day: the discipline, resilience, and focus you build in the gym carries into every part of your life.

Ted’s approach to personal training was forged in the same fire as Iron Legion itself. He doesn’t believe in cookie-cutter templates, gimmick exercises, or training that looks impressive on social media but produces nothing in real life. Every session has a purpose. Every rep has a reason.

When you train one-on-one with Ted, you get the undivided attention of someone who has spent over a decade studying how the human body moves, adapts, and performs under pressure. He will push you past what you thought was possible, but never past what is smart. Intensity with intelligence. That is the Iron Legion standard.

Before a single weight is loaded, Ted evaluates your movement patterns, injury history, training background, and goals. The program starts with understanding the person, not prescribing the exercises.

You get my full attention for the entire session. We start with a thorough assessment of where you are today, not where you think you should be. From there, I build a program that is specifically designed for your body, your goals, and your schedule. Every session is coached in real time. I am adjusting loads, correcting movement, and pushing you at the pace that gets results without breaking you down. This is not a “watch me demonstrate and then go do it” situation. I am in the trenches with you.
Someone who is done wasting time. I have trained complete beginners and I have trained professional athletes. The common thread is not experience or fitness level. It is the willingness to show up, do the work, and trust the process. If you are looking for someone to tell you what you want to hear, I am not your coach. If you want someone who will be honest with you and hold you to a standard, then we will work well together.
It starts with a conversation and a movement assessment. I want to understand your training history, any injuries or limitations, what your daily life looks like, and what you actually want to accomplish. From there, I design a periodized program that progresses intelligently. We are not randomly throwing exercises at a wall. Every phase has a purpose, and we track your progress so you can see the numbers move.
That depends on how consistent you are and how honest you are with yourself outside the gym. With committed clients who train consistently and follow the program, I typically see significant strength gains within the first 8 to 12 weeks. Body composition changes follow. But the result I hear about most is how people feel: more confident, more capable, more disciplined in every area of their life.
Then you are in a great position, because you do not have bad habits to unlearn. I have started many clients from zero, and personal training is actually the best entry point for someone new. You get proper coaching on movement patterns from day one, which means you build a foundation that will serve you for decades.
Most gyms sell you a membership and hope you do not show up. Iron Legion is the opposite. When you train here, you become part of a community that holds each other accountable.
