In 2012, Ted Dreaver stood in his backyard with three people and a basketball filled with sand, sealed shut with duct tape. That was the first Iron Legion session. There was no facility, no branded equipment, no business plan on a spreadsheet. There was just a conviction that training could be something more than reps and sets under fluorescent lights.
Before settling in Ocala, Ted had traveled from city to city, always finding his way into a gym wherever he landed. And everywhere he went, the experience was the same: sterile, faceless facilities where people plugged in earbuds, stared at screens, and left without exchanging a word. No community. No accountability. No one pushing you to discover what you were actually capable of.
That frustration became the blueprint for Iron Legion. Ted envisioned a place where the training was serious, the standards were high, and every person who walked through the door was treated like a teammate, not a membership number.
Over 14 years, that backyard experiment has grown into one of Central Florida’s most respected strength and combat training facilities. Ted’s coaching staff has included professional athletes, Olympic weightlifting world record holders, strength and conditioning coaches from NASCAR, collegiate coaches, MMA fighters, doctors, and first responders.
Today, Ted balances his role as head coach with life as a husband and father. His growing family reinforces the same principle he coaches every day: the discipline, resilience, and focus you build in the gym carries into every part of your life.
